A Note From Rob

By Rob Bishop, on Feb 27, 2012

Dear Friends:

I appreciate the chance to represent you in Congress. When I first ran, I didn’t make a lot of campaign promises. In fact, I really only made one – to go back to Congress and be myself – a Utah conservative who shares your values and will fight for what I think is right. I’ve kept that promise and I ask for your support again.

The things in which I believe and champion haven’t changed.  Here’s a partial list:

  • I’m pro-life, pro-family, and pro-Second Amendment
  • I am in favor of a strong national defense but limited government
  • I sustain the Constitution and understand the 10th Amendment
  • I voted against reauthorization of the Patriot Act
  • I support entitlement reform and tax cuts and reduced spending and voted for Cut, Cap & Balance
  • I always vote for the leanest budgets
  • I’m a passionate advocate for local control of education
  • I’ve consistently fought against Obama-care and voted to repeal it
  • I voted against the TARP and the auto bailouts and the Stimulus bills
  • I voted against the cap and tax proposal
  • I have fought for increased production of our domestic energy resources for energy independence
  • and I won’t give up the battle to secure our borders.

I stand by my votes and look forward to telling you more about my record in those areas in the coming weeks.  I have consistently been rated as one of the most conservative members of the House and just last month was identified by Congressional Quarterly as the House member, among all 435, who votes in opposition to President Obama’s policies and positions the most.  I’ll continue to fight against his flawed policies and as head of the 10th Amendment Task Force will continue to push for Constitutional, common-sense solutions that return more money and power back to the states and to the people.

I’ve lived in northern Utah my entire life. My wife and I raised our five kids in Brigham City and that’s where I still live.  I taught American history and government at the high school level for 28 years and served in the Utah State Legislature including a term as Speaker of the House. I love Utah and am proud to represent our state and with your support will continue to try to be right on the issues and right where I’m needed. Thank you.
